Tropical Storm Erika Official

Tropical Storm Erikas projected path

Tropical Storm Erika's projected path

It took some time, but that tropical wave moving across the Atlantic finally got its’ act together.  The result is Tropical Storm Erika.  A minimum central pressure of 1007 mb and maximum sustained winds of 50 mph is nothing to run away from, but it’s there, just east of the Leeward Islands.  The NHC forecast calls for Erika to slowly strengthen over the next couple days.  At this time, they do not expect Erika to reach hurricane strength.  The forecast track calls for a slight turn northwestward although the NHC discussion admits it’s highly dependent upon Erika’s strengthening over the next few days.

Sorry for not fulfilling the promise of a winter weather post.  It’s coming, but Erika got in the way.
