Hurricane Ida is bearing down on the Florida panhandle near the Alabama border and is forecast to make landfall tomorrow morning. Ida is a minimal hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. It is forecast to weaken quickly once making landfall.
Hurricane watches and warnings are in effect for much of the Gulf coast. The outermost edge of the rain shield is beginning to reach the coastal cities of Florida and Alabama. It appears most of the rain is north of the center of circulation, so the area may begin drying out tomorrow afternoon once the center is on land.
