Mesoscale Discussion Issued for High Plains

The Storm Prediction Center issues mesoscale discussion frequently, but they are primarily associated with severe thunderstorms.  Occasionally, during the winter, they will issue MCDs for intense snowfall.  Today is one of those occasions.  The SPC is predicting snowfall rates to reach 1 in/hr over the area scalloped in purple.  Some isolated locations could approach 2 in/hr rates.  Increasing moisture content and upslope winds will lead to more widespread and heavy snow during the afternoon and evening hours.  Seems like a good night to stay indoors if you happen to live in the area.
