Tropical Storm Erika is very unorganized – to the point where the NHC isn’t exactly sure where the center of the storm is located. As of 11AM EDT, maximum sustained winds are 40 mph with a minimum central pressure of 1008 mb. This is a very weak storm and it is not expected to strengthen much as it passes through the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Sure, the weather will be bad for tourists, but there shouldn’t be much damage associated with the storm. The only threat is the slow movement of the storm (10 mph) as it will cause the tropical storm conditions to last for a prolonged period of time.
TS Erika is forecast to gradually turn northwest over the next few days. No significant strengthening is forecast at this time.
